During the summer of 1999, I took a summer school class which was held in Kyoto. The class itself was about 4 weeks long, and I spent about 6 weeks total in Japan. I visited friends and checked out the sites before the class as well as after the class finished.

It was definitely a great trip for me although I don't mix well with hot and humid weather. Stay tuned for more pictures. Since I finished my travel journal entry for this trip, you can read about it.

The class that I took was held on 2 separate campus on different days. The Seta Campus was a 30 minute walk, up and down hillls, in both directions. Add humidity and the sun, and you get really tired by the time you made it to class. The Fukakusa campus was slightly more of a pain to get to. It was about a 1-1/2 hour commute. First we had to walk about 20 minutes to get to the train station, ride a 20 minute train to Kyoto Station, and then ride another train, which took us about a 5 minute walk to campus.

"The sun and moon are eternal voyagers. The years that come and go are travelers too. For those whose lives float away on boats, for those who greet life clasping the lead ropes of horses, travel is life, travel is home."
