Day 1 Miscellaneous
Pictures (3.23.02)
Here are some random pictures I took on the first day. The first
3 pictures were taken at Fred Meyers, a local supermarket. The 4th
picture is of St. Johns Bridge, which appeared in the movie Pay
It Forward. The 7th picture was taken after we were walking through
the airport in Portland. As for the rest, they're pretty self-explanatory.

Saturday
Market
So every weekend, Portland has a flea market type thing going on
near the Burnside Bridge. It's called the Saturday Market even though
it's open on both Saturday and Sunday.

Japanese
Memorial
A good portion of the area along the Willamette River held a memorial
dedicated to the Japanese people who were put into internment camps
during the second World War. Lots of cherry blossom trees lined
the area as well as some rocks with words and poetry inscribed in
them.

NW 23rd
Ave
This area is a hip and trendy part of Portland. Shops and botiques
line the streets along with a few cafes and restaurants. Lots of
the shops are buit from what looks like former resident homes. It's
a quaint part of town and Mio Sushi was a yummy Japanese restaurant
that I ate while in the area. I also enjoyed a lunch at Kornblatt's,
a New York-themed cafe. The coolest part of the cafe was the portrait
of Kramer (from Seinfeld), which hung above the door.

Multnomah
Falls
About a 30 minute drive east from Portland is this 620-foot waterfall.
It's quite a sight to see. There was this short 5-10 minute hike
up to Benson Bridge, where you could get somewhat close to where
the first part of the falls crashes down.

Lloyd Center
So it turns out that the Lloyd Center is the biggest mall in Oregon.
I guess that's why I decided to check it out. It's not as big as
I thought it would be, since I've been in malls in SoCal and all.
Heh, they did have an ice skating rink in the center though. Oh,
and the coolest thing was that they had an As Seen On TV Store too!

Pioneer
Square
In the downtown area, there was a pretty nice mall called Pioneer
Square. On one of the higher floors was a Todai, which is where
we had dinner.

Pittock
Mansion
I visited Pittock
Mansion on a bright sunny day. Because it was clear, I could
see Mt. Hood in the distance from the back side of the mansion.
It was pretty cool to see this place because it was built way back
in 1914 and still stands today.
