Salt Lake City, Utah (7.3.02 - 7.7.02)
Over the 4th of July weekend, I joined the San
Francisco Juniors Volleyball Club 14-Black team as they participated
in the 2002
Girls' Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships. After 4 days
of tough playing, the team ended up in 1st place for Flight 2, which
is 33rd place out of 64 teams. Go team!
Day 1 (7.03.02)
The Planeride
Here are a few pictures that I snapped while on the our Delta
flight. Some people were shy, while others smiled into the camera.

Arriving
in Salt Lake City
After we touched down and grabbed our luggage, we took a shuttle
to Thrifty
and picked up our two minivans. We we got our wheels, we headed
to the Microtel
Inn & Suites, located in Midvale, a small city just south
of Salt Lake City. Some of us decided to wait in the car while we
waited for some others to check in. And no, the car was not moving
with Hannah behind the wheel.

Dinner at
Buca Di Beppo
Located right across the street from our hotel was Buca
Di Beppo. Although it was just across the way, the walk last
about 5 minutes in the blazing heat. This restaurant looked exactly
like all of the other Bucas out there except for the word "Immigrant"
that they used in front of Italian Dinners.

South Towne
Exposition Center
The South
Towne Expo Center is the host of this year's Junior Olympics
tournament. It is located in the city of Sandy.

USA vs.
Italy
I don't know if they do this every year, but the USA Women's Volleyball
Team played an exhibition game against the Italian National Team.
The Italian Team won 3-2.

Day 3 Photos
(7.5.02)
Obviously, these are team pictures.

Day 4 Photos
(7.6.02)
Megaplex
17 at Jordan Commons
The Megaplex
17 is a really friendly designed theater. On the inside, they
have building facades built above the eateries with "patio"
dining. Although you probably wouldn't survive the 100 degree outdoor
dining experience, this is as close as you can get. They also had
an arcade and virtual reality roller coaster ride.

Jai-Da Signs
and Sings
While we were waiting for our seats at Mayan
to be ready, we noticed a new girl-group called Jai-Da was signing
autographs and about to have a performance. Kudos to them for a
the energy to give song and dance in such hot weather.

Dinner at
Mayan
The Mayan
is "a most uncommon dining experience," as they would
like to advertise. It's uncommon because your dinner entertainment
is cliff diving. On their indoor man-made cliff, there are about
5 divers which perform a 10 minute show every hour. Makes me think:
Rainforest
Cafe meets Cirque
Du Soleil.

Salt Lake
City Airport
The Salt Lake City Airport doesn't seem all that big, but it definitely
has a big Delta Airlines presence. They also seem very proud to
have hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic Games as their windows were
sandblasted with the logo.
