Let me just say that using old parallel port printer cables is not good... Heheh.. it's all about the USB! Um.. yeah... so when I got my new printer and decided to use it, I realized that 1) I didn't have a USB cable, and 2) I didn't have any more USB ports left. I would try to print the Windows Test Page, but for some reason, it kept printing through part of it and then suddenly stop. I tried out different things, but then it dawned on me that the cable connection was sucky. So, I held the cable tight to the printer and then it was successful. After that, I decided that I needed a USB cable and to ditch the parallel cable. [I may have flubbed some terms here so don't kill me!]

Then yesterday, somebody REALLY *sweet* got me a 4-port USB hub. Thanks!! I just successfully printed out a random page. Onwards to the photos!!

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet..." Is that the saying? heheh.

So I spent a good part of this morning making those zhongs for the Dragon Boat Festival. Dang, I had totally forgotten how to make them and my first one was completely all wrong. Since my dad had taught me how to fold and tie them, it was unfortunate that my dad had to take my grandmother to the doctors this morning. That left me and my mom to make them for a little while. Heh, she didn't provide a good example of how he does it since he's more systematic about it. She's just a bit haphazard when making them, yet somehow they turn out looking nice. Heh heh.

Well, after my dad got back, I had him demonstrate how he did them, and after that I was cruising much more smoothly. Hehheh. Oh, but when he got back, he inspected the ones I did and I was told that mine were way too small. Apparently, I was somewhat stingy with the rice. Heheh. I guess since I don't eat much, I made them to the size that I thought was "right." Also, I had tied them too loose. *sigh* After that thought, they got much better.

As of lunchtime (which is now), I made over a dozen of them. We've got lots more to go.

Just when I was about to starting writing about the break up topic, my friend sends me a link to an article entitled Men: Breaking Up Is Bad Only if Women Do It First. I found it to be an interesting article, and worth reading.

Let's see... so I'm supposed to talk about the part where people get over relationships. Well, I think that it's easier to get over it if you're the dumper. I mean, usually you don't just up and leave your SO at random. There is thought that goes into it. I mean, even if you don't extensively think "I'm gonna dump the person," things may have been going bad and you've had negative thoughts about the relationship and your SO. I think with all the mental preparation that you do up until you dump someone kinda already separates you from the other person. That way, I guess the break isn't as severe since in your head, you're already kinda broken up.

The thing with being dumped is, there you are sitting pretty thinking that everything is going just fine. Then one day....BLAMMO, you're dumped. I think that it takes longer because of the surprise and shock that come with being dumped. I mean, first you have to get over the shock and then get over the separation. I suppose the combination of both things isn't easy to handle and that's why it takes longer to get over the relationship.

My two cents among all those dollars out there already.

So Amabelle asked the question of whether or not it's easier to get over a relaionship if you're the dumper or the dumpee. I'll probably write about that in a bit.

Costco is pretty cool. So I went there today with my dad because he wanted to print out some of his digital pictures. It only costs 20 cents. That's pretty cheap. I wonder how the quality will be? I won't find out until tomorrow because it takes them 24-hours.

So after dropping off a cd with some pictures, we walked around the place. I walked down the printer aisle and saw that the Epson 820 was on sale for $89.99. Usually it's $99.99. Since my dad's current HP printer doesn't print photos like I'd like them to, I thought about getting a new printer. I looked over the specs and compared it with some other Epson that was $100 more expensive and they seem to have the basically the same features.

Well, can't go wrong with a $90 printer right? I mean, if all I end up using it for is to print out documents, that's fine. We dumped a few more items into our cart and headed to the cash register. When the cashier was scanning our stuff, there was a short conversation between us.

Cashier (C): "So do you have the coupon?"
Us (U): "What coupon?"
C: "For the printer."
U: "There's a coupon for the printer? Um... we don't have it."
C: "Eh, don't worry about, I've gotcha covered. It's for $20."
U: "$20 bucks? That's great! Thanks."

Basically, that means our $90 printer ended up being a $70 printer. Yay! That's even better! Heh, we were wondering why there were so few printers left. We picked up the 4th to last one.

Not to take away from the Dragon Boat post, but I thought this was a pretty funny forward that I got:

[insert email]

Subject: THIS IS NOT JUNK LETTER.

BILL GATES IS SHARING HIS FORTUNE.

Dear Friends, Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates is sharing his fortune. If you ignore this you will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period. For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00, for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.

Regards. [insert your name here]

I thought this was a scam myself, but two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on, Microsoft contacted me for my address and within days, I received a cheque for US$24,800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this Bill Gates is the man. It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at last US$10,000.00.

[end email]

People sure are creative these days.

So the Dragon Boat Festival is taking place this Saturday, June 15. I remember asking my dad what the significance of the race and those little "zhong" that we eat are for. Here's what he told me, combined with some information that I found on the web. I'll reference this site and this site too.

The Dragon Boat Festival takes place on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. That'll mean it changes every year...sometimes it's in May, sometimes it's in June. It's to celebrate Chu Yuan, a poet, statesman, and patriot, who got jacked by his fellow colleagues because they were jealous of his success. They banded together and got the king to banish him from the court. He was totally disgraced by the court even after being sent away.

Throughout these times, the state was in some trouble and eventually, it was pretty much destroyed by some enemies. With all the humiliation that he had faced in addition to his state being taken down, he just couldn't take it anymore so he commited suicide in a river (Mi-lo), on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month around 277BC.

A lot of people loved him, and they wanted to rescue his body, but they were afraid the fish in the river would eat it. So, they made a whole lot of "zhong," (cooked rice and some stuff wrapped in these big green leaves) and threw them into the river for the fish to eat instead. Then they also used these Dragon Boats so that they could scare away the fish.

That's some story, isn't it?

Well, I'll be helping my parents make those zhong this week. Heh, hope they don't turn out too ugly. hehehe. Maybe I'll take some pictures of the finished product.

Wow, I just discovered another picture that was swiped from my site and posted in some random forum. From what I could gather, somebody was talking about "nice racks" and posted up a picture of a pool rack. Last time it was chicken drumsticks on a barbecue grill, and this time, it's a rack of pool balls. What's next?

*AAAACHOOO* Hmm... I wonder if I have a cold. I'm feeling okay, but I've been sneezing a lot. I wonder if it's allergies. Darn, oh well, I guess I'll just rest and let it pass. Although there is Actifed in the house. Maybe I should take some.
