September 2001

Volleyball Tournament, Santa Clara (9.30.01)
I played in a tournament held at City Beach today. I played with some of the same folks as in the Vegas tournament (Elbert, Kim, Peter), and grabbed two others (Lou, Kurt). Since the co-ed pool ran out of spots, my team had to play in the Men's pool. Despite a slow start, we came back and got 2nd Place. Everyone played their heart out as we came from behind in the quarter-finals as well as the semi-finals to make it into the finals. Our super-trooper Lou, managed to play through the final half of the day after he lost a contact during a play, had a bloody nose, and sprained his ankle.

Club Bas, San Francisco (9.28.01)
After having my second dinner of the night at R & G Lounge, I headed over to Club Bas with some friends. It was a pretty cool night, kicking back with some friends, grooving to the music, and taking down some shots. After Bas, we headed over to Wonmi for a late-night snack.

Polaroid Fun (9.28.01)
So Amabelle recently bought this really cool old-school Polaroid camera, and brought it in to work. It's the same one that is in the movie Memento (it folds up and everything!). We decided to take a Polaroid of our 3-person team, and since I had my camera, I figured we should take a digital picture.

Volleyball At Stanford (9.23.01)
Yesterday after going to Stacks for brunch, I headed over the Stanford and joined my friends who were already playing doubles. It was one of the best volleyball days I ever had, as I partnered up with Dave, and won all 7 games. We ruled the day!!

Pancake Brunch & Sushi Dinner (9.23.01)
I went to Stacks in Burlingame for some yummy pancakes this morning. We had a lot of laughs with Amabelle posing for the camera, Bill eating the sugar, Eric taking the pancake challenge, and Walter cleaning his wallet. On second thought, I think that I have some weird friends.

After playing a couple of hours of volleyball down at Stanford, I met up with Brian and JC. We headed over to Toshi's in Palo Alto for dinner. Yum...

Ibiza, Oakland (9.21.01)
I joined some friends at Hotel Ibiza to help celebrate Annie's birthday. I didn't get a chance to take her picture because she busy partying it up. Ibiza is merely a motel near the Oakland Airport which was jazzed up with lively decor. It's a cool place to party and chill out with friends.

Mel's Diner (9.20.01)
I watched the movie O at the Metreon with Joyce since we haven't seen each other in a while. Heh.. ever since "the incident." After the movie, we headed to Mel's for some dinner. I had a turkey melt while Joyce decided to go for the chocolate cake. Yum! We were looking forward to listening to some oldies, but too bad the machine ate my quarter!

Lucy's & Krispy Kreme (9.12.01)
Yet another visit to Lucy's Tea House for some peach tea. This time it was a little different though. Amabelle, Eric, and I decided to grab some In-N-Out for dinner and Krispy Kreme for dessert. Woah, talk about an unhealthy dinner! We brought our box of donuts to Lucy's and shared them with Dardy, Bill, and Steve. Eric did not seem as enthusiastic as the others when it came to the donut. After some tea and chatting, Amabelle and Bill were fired up to kick the doors of a parked Saturn. Fear not, they're those dent-resistant doors [and it was Bill's car].

Golden Gate Sport & Social Softball League (9.9.01)
So today, my softball team managed to kick some butt in round 2 and round 3 of the playoffs. After the 9am game, we headed to the nearby Jamba Juice and checked out the San Francisco Grand Prix [check out these pics.]. Go team Whoop Ass!

Dinner, Pool, & XYZ (9.7.01)
We had a nice dinner with at Mescolanza this evening. After our meal, we headed over to shoot a few games of pool at Chalkers. Amabelle and Eric left early, and so I ended up going to XYZ with the doctor-boys: Brian, Louis, Mike & Sam.

Pac Bell Park, Day Game (9.3.01)
Today's game was against the Colorado Rockies. The weather was really great, so that made for a nice day at the ballpark with Jeff, Angela, and Mike. I got to eat yummy garlic fries, but after a while, I couldn't eat any more of it. The final score of the game was 4 to 1, Rockies. At least I saw Bonds hit a homerun!

UCB Optometry Rafting (9.2.01)
My friend Carrie invited me along to go to her Optometry class's annual rafting trip to the American River. There were about 8 or 9 rafts total, which about half way through the day got together and formed a big "float-el" (kinda like hotel cuz it was one big mass). What Fun! [hmm... Carrie seems to be in every picture!]

Richard's Labor Day BBQ (9.1.01)
My friend Richard threw another party at his place. With some new roommates in the house, he got a new toy, like Mikey's pool table! It felt like a mini 3rd floor dorm reunion because I got to see some old faces: Mikey, Marvin, Bob, and James. Overall a fun evening, but I've been bugged to visit the East Bay more.

August 2001

Lucy's, Bowling, and The Supremes (8.31.01)
I hung out at Lucy's with Amabelle, Eric, Wendy, Bill, Adam, Dardy, Walter, and James. After playing some Scrabble, we headed over to Sea Bowl for some funky bowling. Would you believe that there was karaoke too? Somehow, Amabelle and I ended up singing You Can't Hurry Love by the Surpremes in front of the whole alley.

Tea & Games At Lucy's (8.22.01)
First was dinner at an El Salvadorian restaurant followed by another outting at Lucy's. This time, there was Scrabble and fun with those little lights.

Visit To IKEA (8.20.01)
Heh, Walter had never been to the IKEA before so I decided that I'd go with him on his first visit ever. He also brought along his new digital camera, so we decided to take random photos around the store. Afterwards, we headed to a restaurant name Cancun and got ourselves an agua fresca (I think), and visited his friends who were hanging out at work. There I ran in Mikey, whom I haven't seen since the good old dorm days.

San Mateo County Fair (8.15.01)
So I went to check out the San Mateo County Fair. It's only going on for 10 days and so when my friend Walter mentioned it, I thought it'd be fun. After all, I've never actually been to a county fair before. It's pretty much what I expected: farm animals, rides, and lots of greasy food. Heh, I ended up having (in that order) a taste of Fried Mushrooms, a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, a Churro, and Strawberry Funnel Cake. The highlight of this evening was the free concert by Brian Setzer. It made me want to get out there and start swing dancing!

Monterey (8.5.01)
While my friend Rafael was planning his visit to California, one of the things on his list was scuba diving in Monterey, so, we headed down there with Amabelle, Eric, and Mike. After his morning dive with Eric, we all grabbed a quick lunch and headed over the the Monterey Bay Aquarium. What a cool place!

Hanging Out With Friends (8.4.01)

Dimsum at Koi Palace
We decide to take Rafael to Koi Palace for some yummy dimsum.

Mini-OISP Gathering
A bunch of us decided to get together since Rafael was visiting and Hueling had moved to town.

The Sze Ocean Beach BBQ
The Sze sisters threw their final summer bbq at Ocean Beach. There was food, music, and lots of fun.

Thursday Night Fun (8.2.01)
What a night! I think I managed to pack in quite a few activities. My friend Rafael is visiting so I wanted to make sure he got to do lots of stuff.

Dessert at Tart-to-Tart
After eating and early dinner at Ebisu, we had a little time to kill so we decided to have some dessert. David apparently didn't eat enough sushi since he ordered a chocolate cake AND a chocolate muffin.

Pool at Chalkers
I think the last time that I went to Drink Club, I shot pool before hand. This time, I remembered my camera and took pictures of people. Wow, someone actually took a picture of me and it's not blurry!

Drink Club at Club Bas
So I would say that DC this time was a lot of fun. I got to see a lot of my friends and ran into some old ones too.

July 2001

Joyriding Adventure (7.28.01)
After the photo shoot, I went joyriding in my car along Skyline Boulevard and Page Mill Road near the 280 Freeway. Wow, so many twists and turns!! It was a really fun drive and I got to challenge the abilities of my car. Thanks to Joe and Alan for the fun drive.

Bay Area Impreza Club Photo Shoot (7.28.01)
This was was definitely a very interesting experience. About 50 or so people with their Subaru Imprezas gathered at the Presidio parking log on a nice Saturday morning to have a photo taken for DRIVE magazine. After about 1 hour or so, all the cars were lined up with the owners and photos were taken with the help of a man and his truck. I don't have the photo from the top of the cherry picker, but I have some photos of other stuff along the way.

Jam-Packed Day (7.26.01)

Lunch and Pool
Today I had lunch with Amabelle, Eric, and Peter at the Rincon Center. Afterwards, we shot 2 games of pool with girls against the boys. It appeared that nobody had their game on as each side struggled to win their 1 game. Perhaps we were anticipating Eric running and prancing in the center fountain for a measly $5. After much thought, he decided that the $5 was not enough money. Darn!!

Dinner at Buca di Beppo
When you meet up with old schoolmates, it's almost impossible not to bring up how we used to be when we were kids. It was good to reminisce about the good old days as well as catch up on each other's lives. Some of them went as far back as elementary school (Carolyn, Ray, Eugene), while others from middle (Ricky, Edward, Henry) and high school (Elaine). The food and the atmosphere were great for this small reunion.

Dinner at Park Chow (7.25.01)
Sometimes you run into people at random places, but in this case, Carol, an old high school friend of mine ran BY me as I was sitting in my car on Sunday. So, we decided to get together and have some dinner with Carrie and Jeff. It was good to catch up on people we knew as well as with each other.

Dimsum at Koi Palace (7.21.01)
So after hassling our waiter, we finally figured out the mysterious name of the custard desert thing that Amabelle raves about so much: Egg Custard Soft Cake. Yum! Among the 6 of us (me, Amabelle, Eric, Dardy, Adam, Bill), we finished off 3 orders of it. [Check out Adam's recap and pictures]

Housewarming at Dardy's & Jay's (7.20.01)
Dardy and his roommate Jay threw a housewarming party on a cool Friday night. Dardy's goal for the evening: to get drunk. Did he succeed? Yes he did. With the help of many Lime-Jello Tequilla shots, he was smiling and talking up a storm. Before heading over to Dardy's Eric and I hung out at Adam's place. [Check out Adam's recap and pictures]

Lucy's and Taboo (7.19.01)
On a Thursday night, Amabelle and I decided we'd head to have some Peach Tea from Lucy's Teahouse instead of going to Drink Club. We had a fun time playing Taboo with Eric, Bill, and Dardy.

Drink Club, Velvet Lounge (7.12.01)
Here we go again. I attended yet another party organized by the Drink Club group. This time, the party was held at the Velvet Lounge in the North Beach area. It's a pretty nice place (the second photo if you want to see) with 2 somewhat separate but cozy areas for you to hang out in. The first photo is the view we had from Chic's Restaurant (at Pier 39) where we ate dinner.

Homestore.com Production Bay Cruise (7.12.01) - See photos
The company wanted to celebrate the completion of a major project, so they treated us out to 3 hours around the San Francisco Bay aboard the "Golden Sunset." I took quite a few pictures, so I have made a separate page for them.

Lunch at Lucy's (7.7.01)
I had lunch and yummy peach tea at Lucy's Tea House in Mountain View, with Amabelle, Bill, John, Adam, Dardy, and Steve. After playing some games, we headed over to Adam's place. [Check out Adam's recap and pictures.] They had a peach tree at the apartment complex so John decided to pick some. On the car ride back, I took some fun pictures. As you can see, John is very talented as he can pose for a photo AND keep his eyes on the road at the same time.

Drink Club, Club Bas (7.5.01)
Here goes another Drink Club! This time it was held at Club Bas, a pretty decent sized club with a fair amount of dance floor space. Overall a very fun night, and all those smiling faces can't be lying!!

4th of July Festivities (7.4.01)
The Sze sisters hosted another fun bbq at the Pacifica State Beach. It started out a little cold, but eventually it warmed up and made for a great afternoon. Since the beach wasn't exactly the best of beaches, most of my pictures where of the guests. Everybody seemed to have a nice time taking a mid-week break from their work. Amabelle and Adam, have pics you can check out.

At night, I met up with a bunch of my friends and we headed to the Pacifica State Beach to light up our own fireworks. As we drove down the last hill, I could see the whole shore lit up with bonfires and sparkling fireworks. It was a magnificent site! I wish I had taken a picture at that moment, but I'm sure it would've turned out blurry. Anyways, I know I'm not a kid anymore, but I still love fireworks.

Grass Doubles Volleyball Tournament, Sacramento (7.1.01)
On a REALLY hot Sunday in Sacramento, I partnered up with Elbert to play in this AVA reversed co-ed tournament. We got there around 8:30 and didn't leave until around 6:30. So much volleyball! All I can say is thank goodness there were trees to provide some shade. Otherwise, I probably would've passed out from the heat. Despite the scorching sun beating down on us, it was a fun day, and we even managed to take 3rd Place!
